Welcome to the Beta Playtest!

Airships, steamworks, sorcery, skullduggery. Politics, crime, espionage, and the occasional good deed. Renegade Jennys and Boilerplate Jacks is a game of outcasts surviving in an unhinged, steam-powered world. Taking its cues from Firefly, Blake's 7, and Farscape, this roleplaying game invites you to play disreputable steampunk heroes in a world that's already tried once to throw them away.

Joining the playtest is as easy as clicking on the links below. The first link is for the complete playtest package. The rest of the links are for ports-of-call: booklets describing various corners of the World Atlantis Broke.

Download the Complete Rulebook

The Rulebook is a complete game, ready to play at your table. It includes a broad setting, character creation, rules for play, game master guidelines, and four ports-of-call: The Court at Kutaraja, Sweetwater Plantation, and Clipper Hill.

Port-of-Call: As Souk al-Wardi

As Souk al-Wardi, the Pink Market, is a quasi-legal auction for Atlantean artifacts, and as such it attracts the world's collectors, antiquarians, and-ahem-artifact retrieval experts. This is where Atlantean artifacts are bought and sold, where ancient knowledge is available on tap, and orichalcum serves as pocket change. As Souk al-Wardi is a small scale port-of-call that nevertheless touches on the ethics of scientific inquiry, not-especially-legal sale of Atlantean artifacts, and sovereignty and religion in a globalizing world.

Port-of-Call: The Court at Kutaraja

Kutaraja, capital city of the Sultanate of Aceh, has lived under siege by Dutch invaders for five years. Something is about to break, and it's no coincidence the picaros have just arrived in town. The Court of Kutaraja features daring heists and bold thievery, the messy politics of monarchy and imperialism, and courageous hope in the face of certain doom. The coldstart, The Glittering Trumpet of Kutaraja, frames the picaros as having just lost one of their own and in town to seek justice... or vengeance.

Port-of-Call: Sweetwater Plantation

Sweetwater Plantation, built through love and slave labor, sits on territory of uncertain disposition. Comanche, slaves, militant Tanner abolitionists, and Confederates all want a piece of the Plantation... and some of the pieces being demanded are bloody. At its heart, though, it is a love story, and the coldstart, Bitter Deeds at Sweetwater Plantation, has consistently produced the bloodiest results of any adventure for this game.

Port-of-Call: Clipper Hill

The frontier town of Clipper Hill, a Liberian colony in the center of Atlantis, is the most dangerous and lucrative boom town the World Atlantis Broke has ever seen. Clipper Hill features eldritch secrets hidden in the coral-and-fern jungles of Atlantis, picaros gone legitimate, and a noble nun with a shady past. The coldstart, All Sky Routes Lead to Clipper Hill, drops the picaros into their old stomping grounds and directly into a brewing crisis of international proportions.

Port-of-Call: The Detroit Machine

Detroit: a thriving, bustling, metastasizing metropolis at the nexus of the Great Lakes trade network, now the center of the Union's airship industry. Pressed tight against the Canadian border, this industrial boomtown is rife with sharp-eyed spies, scheming agitators, and rapacious industrialists. The Detroit Machine examines the industry that literally keeps the world's progress aloft, the people who toil and suffer to make it go, and the cut-throat national machinations that keep it booming.

Release Date: October 31st

Marie Cortin's Map of the World Atlantis Broke

Cortin, notorious airship pirate, smuggler, and trader, has criss-crossed the World Atlantis Broke more times than she can count, and has compiled the notes from her travels into this fabulously detailed map.

The beta playtest is planned to last well into 2015. In the meantime, I'll be writing more ports-of-call to continue to flesh out the World Atlantis Broke. You can keep up with the latest on my Patreon page, where I'm trying to pump out one port-of-call a month.

I hope you'll join us in the playtest, or at the very least get some entertainment out of the colorful set pieces in the ports-of-call. Keep flyin', picaros!
